In Tripura, where entertainment like music, dance, and comedy often takes the spotlight among the youth, MNda TV has emerged as a unique platform offering a blend of science-based education and captivating DIY (Do It Yourself) projects.

What began as a humble endeavour has blossomed into a phenomenon, captivating audiences worldwide with its unique blend of science-based education and captivating DIY projects. Behind this remarkable channel with about 7.79 lakh subscribers and a rich archive of 645 videos is Salemthara Darlong, a visionary creator who has silently transformed obstacles into opportunities, enriching the lives of millions through innovation and hands-on learning. A good number of his videos have views in the multiple crores, such as “How to Make Pencil Toy Motorcycle,” which has 3.9 crore views, “How to Make Tuk Tuk Rickshaw,” which has 3.8 crore views, and “How to Make Mini Coin Saving Bank from Cardboard,” which has 1.6 crore views.

Salemthara Darlong, in his late twenties and a resident of Saibual Village, and the mastermind behind MNda TV, shared insights into the genesis of his channel and the journey that led to its phenomenal success. Graduating with a degree in Social Science, Salemthara’s passion for science-based projects led him to embark on his YouTube journey, despite facing initial challenges.

“When I completed my graduation, I was left with no job or work. So, I decided to try my luck on YouTube in order to support myself,” Salemthara recounted.

Choosing the name MNda TV was a personal touch for Salemthara, who stylized it after his daughter Amanda. “Many ideas popped up when naming the channel, but I eventually decided to go with my daughter’s name,” he shared.

The road to success was not without its hurdles. Salemthara reminisced about the challenges he faced, particularly in the early stages when financial constraints threatened to derail his dreams. “The biggest challenge I have come across would be finance. After graduation, I had no money to purchase materials for the projects,” he explained.

However, Salemthara’s determination and unwavering commitment propelled him forward. “To start the channel itself was a huge challenge for me. Once I started it, I committed myself to seeing it through regardless of viewers’ count,” he affirmed.

Despite his background in Social Science, Salemthara’s passion for electronic gadgets and innovation fueled his desire to create science-based content. “Despite my educational background being Social Science, I was inquisitive and fascinated with electronic gadgets and stuff. So, when I decided to start the YouTube channel, I thought to myself that this interest would allow me to excel,” he revealed.

Crafting each project involves meticulous planning and resourcefulness. Salemthara explained his process of idea exploration, design crafting, and material sourcing. “I first explore ideas from the internet, introspect whether I can make it or not, craft the design, and ensure the availability of the materials required,” he elaborated.

MNda TV’s journey is not only about personal fulfillment but also about providing for Salemthara’s family. “My fundamental objective is how to finance on my own. With the channel, I’m able to learn and live my hobbies and interests besides financially supporting myself and my family,” he shared.

As the channel evolved, Salemthara adapted to changing dynamics and viewer preferences. “Today, running a channel has become more challenging due to stiff competition. The channel needs time to grow,” he acknowledged.

MNda TV’s success has not only been a personal triumph but also a testament to Salemthara’s dedication and perseverance. Despite opportunities for collaboration, Salemthara remains focused on nurturing his channel’s growth independently. “No, I don’t see any collaboration as such. Since it’s a calculated content-based channel, such collaborations may not be suitable,” he stated.

Despite the absence of direct interaction with viewers, Salemthara leverages analytics to understand audience preferences and tailor content accordingly. “I interpret my viewers’ interests and likings. This is how I interact with my audience,” he explained.

Salemthara’s advice to aspiring creators echoes his own journey of resilience and passion. “To begin any channel, one has to understand the YouTube traffic and never stop. Keep going. For that, your content has to be your field of interest,” he emphasized.
